HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF OUR PARISH — Join “The One” Pastoral Renewal Team
Dear Parish Family,
Our parish has been invited by the Diocese to participate in a Pastoral Renewal initiative called “The One.” This is an exciting opportunity for us to prayerfully reflect on who we are, where we are going, and how God is calling us to grow.
As we know, there are three types of parishes:
- Parishes that are dying
- Parishes that are maintaining
- Parishes that are growing
With God’s grace, we want to be a parish that is alive, vibrant, and growing — spiritually, pastorally, and in mission.
To begin this important work, Father is seeking three committed volunteers to serve with him on the Pastoral Renewal Team for our parish.
What This Team Will Do:
- Serve as a resource and support for the parish community
- Help develop and implement a parish-wide survey
- Assist with data review and management
- Collaborate on strategies for parish renewal and individual spiritual renewal
- Participate in five diocesan training sessions
- Commit to serving for at least one year
Who Should Consider Serving?
We are looking for individuals who:
- Have strong communication skills
- Have experience or interest in marketing, outreach, or data organization
- Care deeply about the future of our parish
- Are willing to pray, collaborate, and think creatively
This is not simply a committee — it is a mission. It is an opportunity to help guide our parish into its next chapter of growth and vitality.
If you are interested or would like more information, please contact the parish office or speak with Father directly.
Let us ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we seek renewal together.
LITURGICAL UPDATES:
Our parish will be observing two special monthly devotions in the life of the Church.
Beginning next month, we will celebrate the Mass of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the First Friday of each month at the 8:00 a.m. Mass, a beautiful devotion that invites us to reflect on the deep love and mercy of Christ.
At the 8:00 a.m. Mass on the First Saturday of each month, we will celebrate the Mass of Mary, Our Mother of the Church. In addition, there will be a Rosary and First Saturday Devotion, honoring our Blessed Mother and offering prayers for peace and conversion.
All parishioners are warmly invited to participate in these special times of prayer and devotion as we grow together in faith.
KEEPING OUR CHURCH A PLACE OF PRAYER
We are blessed with a wonderful “good problem” in our parish. Many parishioners enjoy time together after Mass, greeting friends and catching up with one another. This strong sense of community is something to celebrate and be grateful for.
At the same time, some members of our parish family remain in the church after Mass to pray quietly. Recently, the level of conversation in the church has made it difficult for them to do so in peace.
To help balance both community and prayer, we kindly ask that after Mass, conversations be moved to the foyers or the Upper Room, where everyone can comfortably visit and spend time together.
We will also occasionally play solemn music in the church after Mass to help maintain a reverent atmosphere for those who wish to remain in prayer.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. By being mindful of one another, we can continue to be both a welcoming community and a peaceful place of prayer for all.
We are grateful for the warmth, friendship, and faith that make our parish such a special home.
MMMM BACON! The St. Mark Youth Group will hold its annual Bacon Fundraiser after all Masses the weekend of March 21/22. Bring home some hot, delicious bacon to enjoy! All proceeds will be used to help pay for their Steubenville East Youth Conference this summer.
ONE IN CHRIST: 2026 ANNUAL BISHOP’S APPEAL: "The Bishop’s Appeal allows us to live out “The One,” our diocesan vision of spiritual and pastoral renewal. Your generosity supports ministries and services that no single parish can provide on its own, accompanying others in faith and reflecting truth, beauty, and goodness by serving those in need, forming disciples, and strengthening the Church in Fairfield County. I invite you to prayerfully consider giving generously to the 2026 Bishop's Appeal. Your contribution is a tangible sign of our unity, One in Christ, and enlivens the mission of the Church in our Diocese of Bridgeport.” + Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano, Bishop of Bridgeport.
FIRST COMMUNION PARENT MEETING Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at St. James Church, 2070 Main St, Stratford. BIBLE STUDY DURING LENT will be held in the church on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m., immediately following the 6:00 p.m. Mass. Newcomers are always welcome. Please email Laura (Lrobertson@stmarkstfd.org) if you would like to have the readings emailed to you ahead of time.
A book that we reviewed in bible study that many liked and is a good read for anyone to better understand the Mass:
In this book, Catalina reveals the spiritual dimension of the Holy Mass. Beyond what the eye can see, there is a mystical celebration that the Virgin Mary unveiled to this Bolivian mystic.
From the host that mystically takes on the face of Christ, to the wine that becomes the image of the crucified Jesus, the Virgin Mary reveals the marvelous design of her Son’s love for humanity, which reaches its summit in the Holy Mass. Reading this book will transform the way you experience Mass—your participation will never be the same again.
AN ELDERLY PARISHIONER who lives off of Warner Hill Road, is seeking an occasional ride to any weekend Mass. Please reach out to the parishioner’s daughter, Catherine Birch, 203 216 5116, or catherinebirch1@gmail.com if you live in the area and would like to help.

DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION FOR FR. REGGIE ABOUT OUR FAITH? Write it down and drop it in the “Ask your Pastor a Question” box, there’s one by each entrance of the church. Fr. Reggie will answer your questions in the weekly Flocknote.
Here’s what came in over the last few weeks:
Why does the priest live in the rectory next to the church?
The priest lives in the rectory next to the church because it helps him be close to the people he serves and to the church community. The rectory is like a home for the priest, where he can rest and pray. It also makes it easier for him to be available for Mass, meetings, and helping people in need.
The Catechism doesn’t specifically mention rectories, but it teaches that priests are there to serve the community and help people grow in their faith (CCC 1592). Living close to the church helps them do that better!
Why does the priest have to eat the bread and drink the wine?
The priest eats the bread and drinks the wine during Mass because they become the Body and Blood of Jesus. This special meal is called the Eucharist, which means "thanksgiving." When the priest does this, he is following what Jesus asked us to do at the Last Supper when He shared bread and wine with His friends (CCC 1323).
By eating the bread and drinking the wine, the priest is showing that he is part of Jesus and is helping everyone else to be close to Him too. It’s a very important part of the Mass that helps us remember and be with Jesus.
Is there a counselor who is Catholic that the parish recommends?
There are many counselors available who all have different specialties. In addition Catholic Charities has many counselors available. Please email Fr. Reggie privately with more information so that we can direct you to the right person. Please email him at: rnorman@stmarkstfd.org If a person received their baptism, first communion and confirmation in the Catholic Church, then as an adult they became atheist, what happens when the person dies? Where does the soul go?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that baptism is a fundamental sacrament that incorporates a person into the Church and gives them a share in the divine life of God (CCC 1213). It also emphasizes the importance of faith and a relationship with God throughout one's life.
If a person who has received the sacraments of baptism, first communion, and confirmation later chooses to become an atheist, their relationship with God and the Church changes. The Catechism explains that salvation is ultimately in God's hands, and He desires all people to be saved (CCC 1260).
1. **God's Mercy**: The Church teaches that God's mercy is vast and that He understands the complexities of each person's life and choices. The Catechism states that God does not abandon anyone, and His grace can work in mysterious ways (CCC 1261).
2. **Final Judgment**: After death, each person will face judgment, and their eternal destiny will depend on their relationship with God at that time. The Catechism affirms that those who die in a state of grace will be with God, while those who reject Him may separate themselves from His love (CCC 1021).
3. **The Importance of Faith**: While the sacraments are essential, the Catechism emphasizes that faith must be lived out and that a conscious rejection of God can have serious consequences (CCC 1033).
In summary, the Church teaches that the ultimate fate of a person's soul is known only to God. While having received the sacraments is significant, what matters is the individual's relationship with God at the time of death. The Church encourages prayer for all souls, trusting in God's mercy and justice.
